Taaffeite comes in mauve, purple pink, and red. Reds are extremely rare. If you collect all the faceted gems in the world you would get less than a handful -a thousand times rarer than Diamond. We have come across a couple of Star stones, and color-change stones, which are extremely rare – just a few – less than ten specimens documented so far.
Among the ten rarest gems in the world! Named after Bohemian Edward Taaffe who discovered the first Taaffiete from a box of Sri Lankan spinels in 1945. The stone displayed a double refraction which was uncharacteristic of Spinel.
