Tourmaline occurs in all colors, but red, green, and multicolored are the most popular gems. The name Tourmaline comes from the Singhalese (Sri Lankan) words ‘tura mali’ –Gem with in a multitude of colors, some have two or more colors, some even color-changing, and also a rare variety- the Cats-eye.
Tourmalines will often display several colors and its main feature is its marked dichroism. Green Tourmaline is very popular.
