The name Epidote is from the Greek ‘Epidosis’ meaning “Addition” or “Increase”. Epidote is best known among mineral collectors for its unique green color described as “pistachio”, which is quite striking in well-colored specimens.
Epidot is a mineral with interesting characteristics but with limited use in jewelry. Only in large transparent crystals that pieces suitable for cutting can be obtained.
Epidot is strongly pleochroic and exhibits different colors in different directions, mostly green brown and yellow.
